Bloody Wednesday

While Bloody Wednesday started out as a low-budget horror flick,
it is still an interesting watch. If you're into people watching and learning
what makes them tick, you'll be totally enthralled with this film, which is more
of a character study than anything else.
The movie starts out with a focus on a regular average guy no
different than any of the rest of us. Rather quickly; however, he begins to
descend into a world of madness and violence. The film draws strong parallels
with the McDonald's massacre that occurred in San Diego in 1984.
The average guy, Harry Curtis, just can't seem to catch a break. First his wife
leaves him and then he loses his job. Within a very short amount of time he is
then thrown in jail. With no one to help or support him, Harry finds himself
living in an abandoned hotel. At this point he begins to lose his mind and
begins two way conversations with his teddy bear. The ghost's of the hotel's
former bellhop, who is insane, befriends him and the lines between reality and
insanity break down even further. Before long Harry develops an overwhelming
sense of paranoia and picks up an Uzi. That leads to the rather jarring and
violent climax of the movie.
All in all, the movie is a rather complex look at an impersonal society. If
you’ve ever thought that something like this couldn't happen to you, this movie
makes a concentrated effort to reveal that we're all just a couple of steps away
from insanity and potential violence.
There are obvious overtones of the classic horror flick the "Shining" present
(released in 1980) but the overall effect is not nearly as creepy.
It should be noted that while this film is a very interesting character study,
due to the obvious violent content, it's not really suitable for children.
Adults who enjoy delving into the psychological recesses of a
madman will definitely enjoy it.
